On January 4, 2022, Thai and environmental and community rights activist Khairiyah Rahmanyah received a summons after she took an active role in events and discussions about community rights issues. The events were organised after the arrest of 36 Chana community members on 6 December 2021, while protesting against the Chana industrial project because of its potential impact on the environment, health and livelihoods. In 2020, Rahmanyah staged a sit-in protest against the project, and also sent a letter to the Prime Minister about the impact of the project on local people and the environment. The project is driven by a public-private partnership, with funding from two private oil and gas giants: TPI Polene Power and IRPC, a subsidiary of state-owned conglomerate PTT.
