MI Engine Worker Crushed by Mechanical Arm
An employee at Stellantis’ Dundee Engine Plant in Dundee, Michigan, died in a workplace incident involving a mechanical arm pinning him against a machine, company officials said.
Ronnie Adams, 62, a skilled tradesman and Detroit resident, was working on the assembly line when he ended up crushed by a mechanical arm that pinned him against a conveyor.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the plant on Ann Arbor Road at 1:25 a.m. April 7 and found the worker was “seriously injured by the machine while working on the assembly line.”
The incident involved a machine malfunction during ongoing retooling operations, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Adams was part of a small crew working to modernize the plant for a $150 million overhaul to launch Stellantis’ new family of engines and battery trays for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs)…
Stellantis also released a statement, noting that it’s working with authorities on the investigation.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and coworkers of a Dundee Engine Plant employee involved in a fatal workplace accident this morning. The company is currently working with local authorities to investigate the incident. Counseling services will be available for Dundee Engine Plant employees.”
