Myanmar: American tech firms urged to cut ties with Burmese military-linked telco

Burma Campaign UK released a statement urging American technology firms to cut ties with Mytel. Mytel, a telecoms company, is a joint venture between the Burmese military and Vietnamese telecoms company Viettel, which is owned by the Vietnamese military.

Google, Apple, YouTube (owned by Google), and LinkedIn (owned by Microsoft) allegedly hosts Mytel apps and channels. Burma Campaign UK further alleges that Mytel may also be using technologies directly or indirectly supplied by Oracle, TensorFlow (owned by Google), PyTorch (Linux Foundation), Cisco, Juniper Networks, Fortinet, and Microsoft.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited all the companies cited in the statement. Only Fortinet and Cisco responded.
