Chiquita’s former links to Colombian terrorist groups still dog the company. When Chiquita turned itself in to the US government for making “protection” payments to Colombian paramilitaries it paid a price: a $25 million fine to the Department of Justice. …. Chiquita is now being sued under the Alien Tort Claims Act for its alleged role in the deaths of hundreds at the hands of Colombia’s armed militias.
