Pakistan: Former Nestlé worker dies after setting himself on fire outside Lahore High Court over delayed justice and unfair dismissal incl. co. comment

"Nestlé factory worker who self-immolated in protest passes away", 28 February 2025

On Tuesday, witnesses saw Asif Javed, a dismissed Nestlé factory worker, walking out of the courtroom of Justice Shujaat Ali Khan. As he reached an open area, he poured petrol over himself, ignited a lighter, and set himself on fire.

...

Despite being in flames, Javed was heard shouting allegations against Nestlé Kabirwala’s management, claiming they had wronged him. He also expressed frustration over delays in his legal case.

...

Nestlé challenged the NIRC decision at the Lahore High Court, where the case had been pending for the last five years. Before his self-immolation, Javed uploaded a video on his YouTube channel, voicing his frustration over the prolonged legal proceedings and expressing disappointment over his struggle for justice.

...

Addressing the allegations, Nestlé Kabirwala’s HR Manager stated, “The claims that Nestlé is intentionally delaying court proceedings are completely unfounded. As a company, we have the legal right to seek a review of the NIRC’s decision in the Lahore High Court. This is a standard legal process available to any organization or individual.”
