In June 2025, a subcontracted worker at Korea Western Power’s Taean Power Plant was killed in a fatal entrapment accident while inspecting machinery alone. The worker, identified as K and born in 1975, was reportedly found trapped between parts of a lathe machine. The incident marks the first fatal accident at the plant since the widely publicised death of irregular worker Kim Yong-gyun in 2018. Authorities are investigating the subcontractor’s role in the incident.
