Thailand: Crude oil leakage causes environmental harm while Greenpeace Thailand calls for action and responsibility, incl. co. comment

On 5 June 2025, crude oil spill at Single Buoy Mooring No. 2 in the open sea off Si Racha, near its refinery in Chonburi Province, Thailand. The crude oil spill was allegedly operated by Thai Oil Public Company Limited. Greenpeace Thailand indicated that the oil spill into the sea harm “Thailand’s seas, coastal communities, and marine ecosystems.”
Immediately after the oil leakage, the company issued a statement informing the public that “the spill was caused by force majeure conditions from sudden high waves and strong winds just minutes before midnight on June 5, while workers were halting oil transfer operations according to standard safety procedures.”
