In January, The Guardian reported that low-wage cleaners allege the Living Wage Foundation has given accreditation to their employer, outsourced cleaning firm OCS, despite the company paying less than the living wage.

The Guardian says OCS has only committed to pay a living wage to centrally employed staff, therefore not covering the majority of its workforce who are tied to external contracts. OCS employees who clean the British Airways headquarters and its Heathrow offices receive only GBP 11.14 per hour, below the current living wage rate of GBP 13.85 an hour in London. The cleaners say they have been ignored by British Airways.

The workers have joined Unite union and are balloting for strike action. The Militant later reported in April on the weeklong strike, and highlighted the majority of the workers were Indian.

OCS told The Guardian the claims were treated seriously and said its priority was colleague welfare. BA declined to comment.

In December, OCS workers again went on strike to protest their alleged lack of the London living wage among other concerns with their working conditions. The Daily Mail approached OCS and British Airways for comment.
