Gina Pérez, president of the Coordinator for the Defense of the Interests of Chancay, and Carlos Romero vice president of the same organization were denounced for defamation by the companies Volcan and Cosco Shipping, shareholders of the Chancay Port Project. Gina and Carlos have opposed the construction of the Chancay port. The companies argued that Gina and Carlos by simply stating that “through the Port of Chancay minerals will be transferred” affected the reputation of the companies. On 2 October 2020, a hearing before the Second Unipersonal Court of Huaral was held and the companies withdrew the case against them.
