Cambodia: Mango factory punished for polluting public water from its untreated liquid waste; co non-response

BHRRC Cambodia

Lake in Cambodia

In April 2025, the Ministry of Environment found that Ji Li Long (Cambodia) Fruit Industry discharged waste water from its operations without proper treatment of the liquid waste into public water. The incident happened in the Prek Thnaot River through an underground pipe located in Prey Kla Village, Kraing Makak Commune, Ang Snuol District, Kandal Province. The company appears to not have an environmental impact assessment report and a permit to discharge waste after the Ministry’s inspection. This could pose public health risk of the communities nearby the river affected by the untreated liquid waste.

As a result of investigations, the Ministry of Environment has imposed a number of obligations to the company including among others: 1) stop discharging liquid waste directly into public water sources; 2) build a liquid waste treatment tank; and 3) prepare EIA report.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited the company to respond; however, Ji Li Long (Cambodia) Fruit Industry could not be reached for a response.
