Ghana: Tigo issues a statement refuting claims the company under-declared revenue in bid to evade tax
'We are innocent of under-declaring revenue claims - Tigo', 29 March 2015:…In a statement, Tigo [said]…[o]ur attention has been drawn to allegations that Tigo has under-declared revenue and…prevented Subah Info Solutions to…monitor revenue on behalf of the regulator, the NCA. We wish to state that these allegations are false, malicious and irresponsible. We were disappointed that the authors of these allegations did not check with Tigo before going public…For the record…the NCA commissioned a revenue assurance audit into our operations for the period January 1, 2008 to October June 30, 2011. The conclusion…was that Tigo…paid…1% of its net revenue. The Auditors…concluded that Tigo applied the regulatory fee computations correctly...recognition practices…were correct. Revenue analysis and recording of revenue…were also correct. Tigo’s only liability resulted from the auditor’s re-calculations and the treatment of adjustments passed in our financials and reconciliations….[which] has since been settled in full…At no point has Tigo evaded taxes or under declared revenues…
