S. Korea: Labour body rules dismissal of eight union leaders at Shinseong Motors unlawful

“Union calls for reinstatement after Jeonnam Regional Labour Commission rules Shinseong Motors dismissals were unfair”, 7 July 2025

The Shinseong Motors branch of the Korean Metal Workers’ Union (KMWU) held a press conference in front of a foreign car dealership in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, urging the company to reinstate eight union members who were dismissed.

The Jeonnam Regional Labour Commission had ruled on 10 June that the dismissal of the eight KMWU officials constituted unfair labour practices, including discriminatory treatment and unlawful interference in union activities.

The Commission ordered Shinseong Motors to cancel the terminations, reinstate the workers to their original positions, and refrain from repeating similar actions.

Shinseong Motors, a dealer of imported vehicles, had dismissed the eight union leaders, including branch head Kim Won-woo, in March, citing poor performance.
