Automakers offer to settle pollution suit [Japan]

Seven automakers [Toyota, Hino, Nissan, Nissan Diesel (part of Nissan), Mazda, Isuzu, and Mitsubishi] have notified the Tokyo High Court that they are willing to pay between 400 million yen and 500 million yen in settlement money to asthma patients in Tokyo in an air pollution lawsuit...The patients have asserted that their suffering was caused by emissions from automobiles…[T]he plaintiffs are seeking a settlement of several billion yen…
