Cambodia: Phoenix Industrial faces $400K fine and relocation order for releasing toxic waste water; parent company issued response

A Chinese-owned factory in Battambang, Cambodia, Phoenix Industrial Co., Ltd, has been fined over $400,000 for polluting a local river with toxic waste, causing the water to turn black and kill fish. The leak, resulting from a fault in the factory's piping system, prompted the Ministry of Environment to demand the company pay damages and relocate the factory at least 10 km away from the Stung Sangke water source.

The factory's parent company Erkang Pharmaceutical issued a press release confirming the information and that Phoenix Industrial "is actively communicating with relevant Cambodian authorities to seek a coordinated solution".
