Google response re CSR Asia article “Google Theatre”

The argument put forth by Mr. Hanlon and Mr. Frost represents a gross misunderstanding of Google’s actions and motives concerning our business in China, not to mention a cynical interpretation of the good faith statements put forth by leading organizations and individuals in the human rights community... [T]here has not been one single act that determined our path. Rather, it was a combination of the cyberattacks we described, the surveillance they revealed, and an increased amount of censorship...that led us to decide we could no longer censor our search results in China. This set of circumstances is specific to China, and a comparison with other countries would not be responsible... China and Chinese users remain very important to us, but we are committed to providing an uncensored search service...
