Indonesia: State-owned postal service workers demand full-time employment status

"Thousands of PT Pos Indonesia Workers Have Not Received THR Since 2019" 25 March 2025

The Indonesian Workers' Union Association (Aspek) demands a change in the employment status of PT Pos Indonesia from partners to a Fixed-Term Employment Agreement (PKWT). The union believes that this change will serve as a basis for workers to receive normative rights such as Eid holiday allowances (THR).

The President of the Federation of Aspek Indonesia Workers' Unions, Abdul Gofur, stated that the partner status of 10,000 to 15,000 workers at PT Pos Indonesia is detrimental to the employees. In fact, since 2019, the workers have not received their rights such as Eid holiday allowances. "It's clear that the workers demand a change in partnership status to PKWT. This year we are pushing for our colleagues to be able to receive holiday allowances," said Gofur in a virtual press conference on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Gofur believes that the wage system for permanent and partner workers at PT Pos Indonesia is not transparent. For partner status workers, PT Pos Indonesia only provides Rp2,300 per package. In addition to receiving meager wages, Gofur stated that these partner workers also do not receive holiday entitlements and BPJS services. Considering this situation, according to Gofur, the employment status at PT Pos Indonesia should be changed from partners to PKWT in order to fulfill workers' rights.

The union also threatens to stage massive work stoppages and demonstrations at the PT Pos Indonesia Headquarters in Bandung if their demands are not met. "Before resorting to actions and work stoppages, we want to use persuasive methods," he said.

Meanwhile, the President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, stated that only PT Pos Indonesia as an entity under the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) designates its employees as partners. However, employees with partner and permanent statuses perform the same duties. "PT Pos Indonesia is violating the law," said Said on the same occasion.
