As global CSR requirements become increasingly stringent, not recognising and understanding the impact of one's business on human rights in different countries is becoming a major management risk. There is a growing demand from business partners and consumers to ensure that 'responsible corporate behaviour' not only in their own companies, but also in their supply chains, conforms to international standards with regard to the adverse impacts on human rights that arise in the course of corporate activities. JETRO, together with the ILO Office in Japan, conducted interviews at the headquarters and local subsidiaries of Japanese companies with manufacturing sites in Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangladesh, mainly in the textile and apparel, electrical and electronics sectors, as part of the Office's 'Building Responsible Value Chains in Asia' project. The report includes information on the response to respect for human rights and other aspects of the project.
