Myanmar: Garment workers threatened to sign contract on wage payments; incl. co. non-response
In August 2024, it was reported that workers at Pro Cap are facing a series of violations, including workers forced to sign a contract on wages, that covers wages for 30 days (even on months with 31 days) - those who don’t sign are threatened with demotion to day labourer status, and those who do sign are told they will be paid15,000 kyats. Other violations include pregnant workers denied leave for hospital appointments, wage cuts if workers attend the clinic provided as part of workers’ social security benefits, limited breaks and workers not provided food during shifts.
It was also reported that a worker at Pro Cap was dismissed for complaining to the Labour Office about labour rights violations at the factory.
In September 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Otto Caps to respond. They did not.
