New Zealand: MAH Enterprises used "inexcusable" delaying tactics to overturn NZ$96k in penalties relating to migrant worker abuse, receives additional penalties

MAH Enterprises was fined in 2023 after an investigation substantiated allegations relating to migrant worker abuse affecting 14 employees, including 42 breaches of employment law. Workers were found not to have received annual leave entitlements and at least one employment agreement did not comply with the law.

In 2024, an Employment Court Chief Judge said MAH had used "inexcusable" delaying tactics to avoid paying the penalties of NZ$96k. In her comments, Christina Inglis highlighted the ongoing impacts and resulting precarity for the 14 migrant employees affected.

In 2025, it was reported that the company was put into liquidation, still owing over NZD1.3 million. The penalty has still not been paid by the firm.
