"Las Bambas: Chuicuni community members lift blockade in the Southern Mining Corridor"-21 March 2022-.

On Friday 18 March, Las Bambas and the community of Chuicuni, Challhuahuacho district, in Apurímac, reached an agreement that lifted the blockade of the southern mining corridor and access to the mine, which had begun on 14 March...the mining company was facing two demonstrations. The first in Cusco, in the Quechua community of Urinsaya. The second, in the community of Chuicuni, in the Apurimac district of Challhuahuacho, in Apúrimac.

According to journalist José Víctor Salcedo, the Secretariat for Social Management and Dialogue, an office attached to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers [PCM for its Spanish acronym], helped to resolve the conflict. In this line, the journalist revealed the agreement that Las Bambas would have signed with the community; the document consists of 21 points, and a special one that addresses local employment.

The first point states that Las Bambas has committed "to promote employment opportunities for the community members, a list of which will be presented on 21 March"; the company has also promised to "resume the construction of communal roads in June (beginning of the month)" and "to train operators when the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic cease".

The next meeting will be held on 24 March. The Chuicuni community members have requested the presence of Las Bambas' Community Relations Manager at the meeting, and the company requested the presence of its Community Relations staff at the community meetings.
