USA: Amazon responds to accusations of using extensive surveillance to monitor workers & prevent union organising

Online retail giant Amazon has been accused of anti-union practices across its warehouses and stores in the USA. It has been alleged that the company uses extensive surveillance to monitor its workers, using the data collected to prevent union organising. According to a research paper by the Open Market Institute, Amazon creates heat maps using data such as team-member sentiment and diversity to determine which sites have a higher likelihood of unionisation. The paper alleges that Amazon moves employees around sites to undermine unionisation efforts. Advocates have criticised these actions as interfering with the fundamental rights of freedom of association and collective bargaining.
