Petition launched against opening of lithium mine in eastern BiH, 15 February 2024

In Lopare, in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, a gathering of locals was held to oppose the opening of a lithium mine on Mount Majevica, which, according to the spatial plan of the Republika Srpska (RS) from 2015 to 2025, is scheduled to be protected as a 'Nature Park', although there has not yet been an official decision...

Locals have also started signing a petition against the opening of the mine, which will last seven days.

"We do not accept that the local community is being deprived of the right to mine and that the environmental impact assessment is being abolished," said the "Protect Majevica" initiative, claiming that this is provided for in the new draft Law on Geological Exploration adopted by the RS Parliament at the end of last year....
