India: Trade unions in Karnataka call for revocation of four labour codes
"Trade unions demand repeal of four labour codes", 25 April 2025
...
A Joint Committee of Trade Unions (JCTU) in Mysuru has sought the repeal of the four labour codes that the Centre plans to enforce across the country. Leaders of various trade unions, who attended the district-level convention in Mysuru on Friday, not only demanded withdrawal of the four labour codes that “push workers into servitude”, but also gave a call for protest against the anti-labour policies of the Centre and State governments. The convention was attended by leaders of the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), and All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU). They opposed the four labour codes – wage code, social security code, industrial relations code, and occupational safety, health, and working conditions code.
..While highlighting the conditions and challenges faced by workers in both organised and unorganised sectors, the speakers held the policies of the government responsible for these issues. The convention also sought to underscore the need to address the problems faced by farmers and workers in the agriculture sector, who are the backbone of the society. It also issued a call to build a movement across the district to demand changes in the “anti-labour” policies while appealing to various sections of society, including the workers, farmers, students, youth, women, and others, to unite and work together against the injustice.
