Indonesia's Constitutional Court rejected a test case filed by PT Gema Kreasi Perdana (GKP) concerning the legality of mining in small islands. GKP, part of Harita Group, operates a nickel mine in Wawonii Island in Southeast Sulawesi. In February 2023, villagers staged protest believing that miners trespassed on their land.
