On 1 May 2024, five mining unionists were attacked by thugs in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union (ZDAMWU) union was actively fighting against harassment, long working hours, sexual harrasment and corruption at the company Bikita Minerals. Bikita Minerals, which is owned by China’s Sinomine Resource Group, is the largest lithium mine in Zimbabwe which is Africa’s largest producer of lithium ore.
