In another article on aspects of human rights in Asia, this week I am examining the record in the Philippines. As ever our argument is that businesses involved in the Philippines has to be aware of some of these issues so that any possibility of complicity in human rights violations can be avoided. Many of the potential problems in the Philippines are linked to the abuse of workers...Businesses investing in the Philippines or using supply chains there must be aware that although labour standards are often clearly defined under the law, the implementation of those laws at a local level is often poorly enforced.
