Roots relieved to be away from Olympic glare

As protests disrupted the Olympic torch relay in Paris Monday, Roots Canada co-founder Michael Budman said he's just as happy to hand over association with the U.S. Olympic team to Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. because of discomfort over China and human rights...While Mr. Budman is "ecstatic" to be on the Olympics sidelines, his company continues to aggressively expand in China...[and] about 20 per cent of the Toronto-based retailer's manufacturing is done in China. "We're not going to close our stores in China because of the human-rights issue," Mr. Budman said..."The Olympics come under a different heading because it's supposed to be about human rights. That's where the disconnect is. It's all supposed to be about fair play and non-commerciality and the rights of people."
