On 26 June 2024, the police arrested 30 young people, 21 men and 9 women, while marching towards the Chinese Embassy in Kampala, Uganda to submit a petition to halt the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). Yuda Kaye and Bob Barigye, among the leaders of the peaceful action, were among those arrested.

In their petition, the students, joined by other community members, urged the Chinese government to refrain from funding EACOP, which they said, "poses existential consequences to the region's natural resources, including Lake Victoria, through which a third of it passes, as well as forests and rivers."
