[DOC] Japanese Government Involvement in Natural Gas Development in Burma

Yetagun Natural Gas Field: Stakes Held by Project Partners: Petronas Carigali: 40.91% (Operator); Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise: 20.45%; PTT Exploration and Production: 19.32%; Nippon Oil Exploration Myanmar: 19.32%...The onshore portion of the Yetagun gas pipeline parallels the notorious Yadana pipeline...The construction caused severe human rights abuses by the Burmese military troops brought in to “provide security” in the area. In response to an inquiry in August 2008 by a weekly magazine, both METI and Nippon Oil Corporation stated that they were not aware of such abuses.
