Halvor Ekeland and Lokman Ghorbani are Norwegian journalists working for the public broadcaster Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). They were arrested on and reportedly detained for 36 hours after investigating conditions for migrant workers in Qatar ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup. According to reports, authorities also deleted footage they gathered at a migrant labor camp. Ekeland and Ghorbani also had an appointment with the dissident Abdullah Ibhais, who arrested by authorities hours before the interview. Earlier in 2021, the Norwegian football magazine Josimar published an extensive article on the trial against Ibhais, claiming that he was sentenced for defending the rights of migrant workers in the country.
