Mexico: Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide denounces jailing of indigenous rights defender opposing mining activity of Peña Colorada of Ternium & ArcelorMittal - companies respond

On 22 July, the indigenous rights defender and environmental lawyer, Eduardo Mosqueda, was imprisoned. For many years, there has been a land dispute between the local population and the mining company Peña Colorada, 50% property of Ternium and 50% property of ArcelorMittal. The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide has started an action to demand the liberation of Eduardo Mosqueda.

Business and Human Rights Resource Centre invited both, Ternium and ArcelorMittal, to respond to allegation of negative impacts of the mining activity and the imprisonment of the defender; the responses are available.

On September 30, a federal judge annulled the charges against Eduardo.
