Many Colombian companies have a tradition of providing philanthropic support to the disadvantaged and those impacted by conflict. Despite this, as is demonstrated from experience in other countries suffering from on-going conflict, there is a great deal more that business can do ‘beyond philanthropy’ that can result in both community and business benefit; companies have the capacity to directly mitigate the impact of conflict on the vulnerable and socially excluded by aligning their core operations, corporate citizenship and engagement in public policy to promote human rights, peace and development.
