Nov 20, 2013 - 3-5pm in NYC: The Rana Plaza Disaster in Bangladesh: Taking Stock Half a Year On - And marking one year since the Tazreen factory fire

On 20 November 2013, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre held the 4th event in its Mary Robinson Speaker Series, at Ford Foundation headquarters in New York City.  The subject was "The Rana Plaza Disaster in Bangladesh: Taking Stock Half a Year On".  Following a moving and inspiring keynote speech by Kalpona Akter of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, there was a lively panel discussion and audience Q&A on progress and challenges in improving the lives of garment workers in Bangladesh.  A blog post about the event by the Resource Centre's Executive Director Phil Bloomer is here

Panelists (l to r): Steven Greenhouse, New York Times (panel moderator); Kalpona Akter, Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity; Judy Gearhart, International Labor Rights Forum; Sarah Labowitz, Center for Business and Human Rights at NYU Stern business school; Chloe Poynton, BSR (Business for Social Responsibility); Lauren Compere, Boston Common Asset Management; Harpreet Kaur, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre.
