Pakistan: Delivery and construction workers face income loss and health risks during monsoon season; incl. co. non-response

Since June 2025, heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan have caused widespread flooding, killing over 1,000 people and disrupting livelihoods across both rural and urban areas. Gig economy and daily wage workers, including those working with platforms like Foodpanda, Bykea, and InDrive, have seen their income severely impacted as transport and construction work halted during the rains. Many continued working in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, risking health complications due to exposure to floodwaters. Despite their growing role in Pakistan’s labour market, digital platforms have not provided adequate protections or income security during extreme weather.

In October 2025, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Foodpanda, Bykea, and InDrive to respond to reports of gig workers in Pakistan facing income loss and unsafe working conditions during the monsoon season, and to disclose any measures taken to ensure worker protection and income security during extreme weather events. Foodpanda and Bykea did not respond.

The Resource Centre was not able to contact InDrive to invite a response to the allegations; if a response is received in the future, this page will be updated accordingly.
