Environmental prosecutor reports on investigation into emissions at JSC Svyatogor, 5 September 2025

Residents of the Prigorodny settlement in Krasnouralsk have raised alarm: since the end of July they have been suffering from continuous emissions of sulfur dioxide from the facilities of JSC Svyatogor. According to residents, the toxic emissions, visible to the naked eye, cause burns to the mucous membranes, tearing of the eyes, and make normal breathing impossible. Acidic precipitation has destroyed crops in gardens, and the leaves on trees have been completely burned. In the middle of summer, the settlement looks as if autumn has already arrived. Residents are demanding urgent intervention by the authorities and an end to the environmental disaster.

In response to the citizens’ complaints, the environmental prosecutor’s office reported that an inspection of JSC Svyatogor had already been initiated based on previously received complaints.

However, the inspection measures have been suspended pending the receipt of a conclusion from specialists of Rosprirodnadzor, which has not yet been provided. At the same time, it was reported that the Ural Interregional Directorate of Rosprirodnadzor will conduct a scheduled inspection of the company’s activities starting on 13 October 2025. Residents have been promised that they will be informed of the results of the investigation at a later date.
