RWE response to Evian letter outreach
Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited RWE to comment on a letter that emerged from the 2025 Franco-German business meeting in Evian, France. We asked the following two questions:
- Is it RWE’s position to call for the full abolition of the CSDDD?
- If it is, has your company considered the human rights risks or impacts of taking this stance publicly, and subjected it to a human rights due diligence process? If so, what have been your company’s conclusions and any action plan?
RWE provided the following response:
At RWE, we are deeply committed to driving the energy transition in a responsible and sustainable manner. This commitment is fully aligned with international human rights, labour rights, and environmental standards. We take ethical business practices very seriously and maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward human rights violations.
As a signatory of the UN Global Compact, we uphold its principles, which include respect for human rights, labour standards, and environmental protection. These principles are ingrained in our Human Rights Risk Management System (HRRMS), which helps us identify, assess, and mitigate human rights risks within our operations and direct supply chains.
Regarding the necessary regulatory framework, we believe it's crucial for it to be designed in a pragmatic and uniform manner. We welcome all considerations at the European level that aim to pursue a risk-based and proportionate approach without imposing excessive bureaucratic burdens.
Thank you again for your engagement and for providing the opportunity to clarify our position.
