Since 15 October 2024, Tsongon Tsering has faced intimidation in relation to a five-minute video he posted on social media that appealed to attention and action regarding the issue of ongoing rock and sand mining activities in Tsaruma village in Kyungchu. Tsongon Tsering mentioned that large-scale mining and transportation have caused severe damage to the local ecology. Authorities shut down his account and blocked search terms related to his name on WeChat, a popular Chinese social media platform.
