On 24 May 2016, a United States court ruled that a lawsuit against Union Carbide filed by local communities may not proceed despite strong evidence the company's chemical plant continues to cause water pollution in Bhopal, India. The plaintiffs disagree with the court's ruling and plan to file a petition for rehearing.
