[Bayer’s response re concerns that its coal imports contribute to negative social and environmental impacts]. Bayer defends itself against the allegations of the so-called Coalition against Bayer Dangers (CBG). We pursue a company policy that is based equally on economic and ethical, social and ecological principles. For the specific case of coal imports, this means that we are well aware of the social and ecological problems linked to coal mining in certain countries. For this reason we engage in an intensive exchange with coal dealers regarding the import of coal from countries such as Colombia. As the amount of coal we procure, around 340,000 metric tons, is comparatively low, we principally do not purchase it directly from the producer but through recognized coal dealers.
