G4S response on allegations of abuse at Manus

G4S provided support services on behalf of the Australian government at the Manus Island Regional Centre in Papua New Guinea between October 2012 and March 2014.

In February 2014, a major disturbance took place at the centre, which sadly resulted in the tragic death of Reza Barati, an asylum seeker at the centre.

Following the incident, the Australian government commissioned two reviews. G4S engaged fully with both of these. The findings of the reviews and evidence submitted by G4S are available online.

In 2017, G4S was one of three defendants facing legal action from lawyers acting on behalf of Manus Island asylum seekers, relating to human rights issues, along with the government of Australia and Broad Spectrum.

The Australian government agreed to a settlement $70m for the detainees, to be split between the defendants.
