Gulf: Podcast discusses the plight of Nepali migrant workers incl. recruitment practices

Bibek Dhakal of Shramik Sanjal discusses the situation of Nepali workers in the Gulf as well as the challenges and exploitation facing them. Bibek said that recruitment practices are bad for migrant workers. Workers have to pay recruitment fees ranging from USD 1000 to 1500 in order to get a job the GCC. In many cases, Nepali workers found out the contracts they signed with the recruiters were fake and were forced to sign new contracts upon arrival for different jobs. He added, Nepali workers have been hit by the pandemic. Many have lost their jobs and income and were unable to secure their basic needs. In addition, many have been stranded in the GCC and requested repatriation.
