Israel/OPT: ETUC reiterates call for review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement

"ETUC Statement on the situation in the Gaza Strip"

The ETUC expresses its grave concerns at the unconscionable humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The ETUC calls for immediate and effective EU and international initiatives to alleviate the intolerable humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip against the background of the blockade enacted by the government of Israel.

We recall that under international law the use of starvation of the civilian population as a method of war constitutes a war crime, and so do all forms of collective punishment.

The ETUC calls on the EU to further support the UN aid system and guarantee that the principles of impartiality, neutrality and independent delivery of aid are respected by all EU partners, including Israel. [...]

The ETUC reiterates its call for an immediate and permanent cease-fire towards a negotiated agreement between Israel and Palestine that results in a lasting and peaceful “two-states” solution, the opening of borders for humanitarian aid, full respect for international law and a review of the EU Israel Association Agreement in light of its Article 2.
