NGOs call on social media platforms to strengthen human rights due diligence in crisis situations; incl. co. response

In April 2022, more than 30 NGOs issued a joint letter calling on Google, Meta, Telegram, TikTok, and Twitter to strengthen their human rights due diligence in crisis situations and address structural inequalities in how they treat different countries in crisis. This includes increasing transparency and accountability in their content moderation practices, building meaningful relationships with civil society, and hiring adequate numbers of content moderators and staff for every language in which they provide services.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Google, Meta, Telegram, and TikTok to respond to this letter. Twitter responded and Google, Meta, Telegram, and Tik Tok did not.
