Oman: Sri Lankan female workers promised jobs in UAE by recruitment agency forcibly taken to Oman, "auctioned" for sexual abuse

Reports reveal a Sri Lankan female workers sex trafficking circle has been established in Oman. It is reported that up to 90 workers on tourist visas were brought into Oman through the UAE after they were promised jobs by a recruitment agency. Upon arrival their passports and other belongings were confiscated and they were kept in detention and subsequently sold in an auction for sexual activity for up to USD6,493,402.

Sri Lankan authorities intervened and arrested the culprits.
