Qatar: Kenyan workers at Al Jazira Cleaning report poor accommodation, withheld passports & delayed salaries; co. did not respond

In January 2022, journalist Benjamin Best published information on Twitter received from Kenyan migrant workers employed by Al Jazira Cleaning in Qatar. The workers shared evidence of a range of abusive living and working conditions they reported experiencing - the workers told Best they were living in cramped and unsanitary accommodation; some reported not being in possession of their passport and others had been threatened with deportation. Worker also referred to the now abolished no-objection certificate and said that they would be prepared to give up claims to unpaid salaries if they could leave unemployment.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Al Jazira Cleaning to respond to the allegations; it did not respond.

In February, Doha News reported that at least 23 workers at Al Jazira Group had not received their salaries since October. They had reported the company twice to police and to the Ministry of Labour. The case was also reported to the Ministry to Labour. Doha News also shared evidence naming Al Jazira Security Services. The Resource Centre invited both Al Jazira Group and Al Jazira Security Services to respond to the article; neither responded.
