Marielle Franco's Camp
المصادر
150 families are settled in the so-called "Marielle Franco Camp" in the municipality of Itinga, Maranhão, Brazil, producing agro-ecological food for subsistence and marketing. The farmers, who do not have land tenure, report the existence of a conflict over the territory with Viena Siderúrgica which, according to them, maintains eucalyptus plantations for the production of charcoal to supply steelworks' ovens. According to the families, the company, in retaliation against the Camp, has been spraying the plantations with pesticides, closing access to the city, keeping private security guards in plain clothes in the community and expelling and threatening workers.
