Labor activist Neda Naji was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison for participating in peaceful Labor Day protests in Tehran on May 1, 2019. The verdict was issued on December 3, 2019, after 218 days of detention. The protest was a peaceful sit-in in front of the Iranian Parliament to object to the treatment of workers all across the country in nonpayment of wages and benefits, related to strikes at the Haft Tapeh sugar factory. The gathering was attacked by security forces that arrested Rangriz among other workers and labor rights activists.
