Australia: Measles outbreak at Fortescue mine raises concerns over worker health protection and risks to Indigenous communities

الادعاءات

"Fortescue offers measles vaccine boosters after Christmas Creek outbreak", 27 September 2025

Iron ore miner Fortescue has made measles vaccination boosters available to its workers after an outbreak of the virus in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

Health authorities confirmed three measles cases earlier this month at the company's Christmas Creek mine, 1,300 kilometres north-east of Perth.

Fortescue said there had been no impact on operations, and it was following the advice of health authorities...

The situation is putting especially vulnerable communities in the state's north under threat.

"Certain populations, including Indigenous populations up in the north, in the Pilbara and the Kimberley, would be among those people who would be at greater risk if there is more circulation," [University of WA associate professor and virology expert, Allison Imrie] said.
