Cathay United Bank's response to TTNC Watch report on Taiwanese Businesses in Indonesia
Thank you for expressing your concern on a report by Taiwan Transnational Corporations Watch (TTNC Watch) that points out some labour right issues at Pegatron’s Pegaunihan factory in Batamindo Industrial Estate, Batam city, Indonesia.
We, Cathay United Bank Co., Ltd. (hereinafter as “CUB” or “we”), agree that it is important to focus on labour right issues and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.
The information mentioned in the report caused some misunderstanding. We would like to take the chance to clarify that CUB has neither credit nor investment relationship with Pegatron for now. The shareholder listed on Pegatron’s website is "Cathay United Bank in Custody for Infinity No. 1 Company Investment Account", which means Infinity No. 1 Company Investment is the shareholder of Pegatron and CUB acts as its custodian only.

As a bank dedicated to promoting sustainable social development, we have contacted our client, Infinity No. 1 Company Investment, regarding the labour right issues indicated in the report, and have not receive any response yet.
Again, we appreciate your faith and efforts on promoting a healthier labour environment as well as a more stable society.
