CJ CheilJedang's response to APIL's second rejoinder

- CJ CheilJedang has recently conducted human rights due diligence on solar salt farms in Shinan region in September and November 2022. We’ve notified APIL on the due diligence commencement via email sent on October 4, 2022. The due diligence results showed no evidence of forced labor from CJCJ supply chain. Furthermore, most of the salt farms are automated, and loading/unloading tasks that require intensive physical labor have been considerably reduced due to the addition of newly hired subcontracted workers, confirming the overall improvement in the working environment.

-    We’ve responded in August and December 2022 that CJCJ is just one of the many shareholders of Shinuido Sea Salt Co., Ltd., and that CJ CheilJedang has no legal grounds as a shareholder under the Republic of Korea law to restrict the capacity of other shareholders. Regarding Taepyung Salt, we have answered that we terminated the business relationship with Taepyung Salt in 2018 and have not entered into a further business relationship with them since the termination.

-    CJCJ supports the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We work to prevent any human rights infringements not only in our business operations but also in our business relations. We plan on conducting additional human rights due diligence on salt farms in Shinan region in 2023 as well.
